Example Patcher

Prerequisites

This tutorial is designed for users with a cursory understanding of Bell. If you are unfamiliar with Bell, we recommend heading to the beginning of our Intro To Bell - Make A Synth tutorial series.

Let's begin!

To get started, open up bell.audio in a web browser.

Step 1: Open subtractive_synth.bell

Log into your Bell account. Then click File, then click Open project....

For this tutorial, we will be using the subtractive_synth.bell project from the ADSR - Make Envelopes Bell tutorial. If you do not have this file, either follow the Bell tutorial, or download the file here.

Step 2: Open the Share Your Project form

In the top right corner of Bell, click the icon to open the Share Your Project form.

All projects are private by default, and only accessible via your account. By sharing a project, you are making the current version public for others to use, edit, and implement within their own projects.

Step 3: Fill out the Share Your Project form

Complete the form for your new project. Check the New Project box, and fill out the form accordingly:

New Project 🔲 Update Existing ⬛
Name Subtractive Synth
Category Intro To Bell
License MIT
Version 1.0.0
Description My first shared project!
Tags intro-to-bell

Let's take a look at each line in the form, and discuss their function and ramification for your shared patch.

Name

The name of your shared project. You can change it here if you'd like the shared project to be different from your private version of the project.

Category

The macro filter for you project within the Community Garden. Choose the category that best fits your project for others to find more easily!

License

The license determines what others can do with your project. Depending on the license, this can range from complete open-source use, to closed source presentation only use.

Version

Use the versioning section to reference project status, changes to the project, and the like.

Description

This section is used to describe your project to users in the Community Garden. Include text descriptions, bullet points, embedded demo videos, changelogs, and more.

Tags

Tags help make your project more easily searchable within the Community Garden, and allow others to compare your project with similarly tagged projects.

Once the form is complete, click Share. A prompt will appear confirming that you want to share. Click Share again.

Step 4: Go to the Community Garden

In the top right corner, click the Community Garden tab. Below the search bar, click the Category menu, select the "Intro To Bell" option.

The Community Garden is where you can find all shared projects in Bell! Check out our featured projects on the main page, or search for specific sounds, effects, functions, users, or any other defining trait of a Bell project to try out, experiment with, and incorporate other users' projects!

The Intro To Bell category is where you will find your shared project, as well as other users' Intro To Bell projects. Check out how others completed the tutorial, and see if they or you did anything different!

Step 5: Copy a project to your account

Head back to the main page of the Community Garden. Double-click a project that interests you.

In the information card on the project page, click the Copy To My Account button. Name the project what you'd like, then click the Copy button.

We have successfully added a project to our account! Head to your Projects menu to find the newly copied project.

We can now play with the project, make edits, or use aspects of it in another project!
